Arab countries cut links with Qatar
Jun 5 2017

The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain announced today (Monday 5 June) that they are severing diplomatic ties with Qatar, as tensions escalate in the region as a consequence of differing foreign policy objectives.

The current implications are:

- Senior Qatar Port Authority officials have confirmed that Qatar flag vessels are currently not being accepted in the UAE, with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia potentially adopting a similar stance. However, the inward and outward clearance of all ships in Qatar ports continues to operate as normal.

- The single land border between Qatar and Saudi is currently open / operational, but border officials have said they could be instructed to close this at any time.

- Currently all flights to / from Qatar with Emirates, Etihad, Saudi and Gulf Air are cancelled.

- Most of Qatar’s daily food, water and beverage supplies come from Saudi Arabia, so this could impact daily life.

Further developments on this situation are expected throughout the course of today and updates will be provided as and when they are available.
